8pm update: East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is scaling down an operation on Ashdown Forest. At 7.45pm, a Land Rover and fire engine from Crowborough, a Land Rover from East Grinstead and the water carrier and dual purpose truck from Uckfield remained at the scene.

Five fire appliances have been sent to the Ashdown Forest this afternoon (April 9) to tackle what appears to be a major blaze.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service responded to a call soon after 4.30pm.
Tony Elvy reported seeing a “large fire over the forest” with “multiple appliances” in attendance in the area of King’s Standing.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was a gorse fire near the Box car park.
Initial reports said an area of around 100 metres by 150 metres was alight.
At 6pm, five fire engines and a number of other service vehicles were at the scene.
One fire engine and a Land Rover from Crowborough; one fire engine, the water carrier and dual purpose truck from Uckfield; Land Rovers from Heathfield, The Ridge in Hastings and from East Grinstead, and fire engines from Forest Row, Hailsham and Wadhurst.
Three officers are also in attendance.
The area has been sectorised as efforts are made to contain the fire, the fire service said.
There are no reports of injuries.
