Uckfield Picture House swathed in scaffolding as the outside is redecorated and the turret re-tiled. A new flag pole is to go up too.

Evidence of bygone eras revealed at Picture House, Uckfield

Evidence of bygone eras is being revealed as refurbishment of The Picture House continues in Uckfield.

A well, where a piano used to go during the silent era, old staircases, flooring and decor from different periods have all been found.

Last Sunday at 5pm there was the last screening in Screen Three. As soon as credits had rolled the seats came out. Meanwhile work continues on Screen One.

Alterations include moving the entrance to Screen One and raising the floor. By the first week in November two of the three screens should have been refurbished.

There will be new seats with cup holders, new carpet, new air conditioning and better sound.

Outside the building is swathed in scaffolding as it is redecorated. New roof tiles are going on the turret and a new flagpole is to be fitted.

There’s more about the refurbishment on The Picture House Facebook page and on cinema owner Kevin Markwick’s blog.
