Driver who died in crash between Uckfield and Newick on A272 is named

The driver who died in a crash involving a tanker and a car on the A272 between Uckfield and Newick on April 2, has been named.

He was William Swanson, known by his family and friends as Iain, 80, from Bracken Way, Broad Oak, near Heathfield.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash in Goldbridge Road on the A272 which happened just after 1pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene but the driver of the Renault Megane involved had died from his injuries. The tanker driver was unhurt.

The road remained closed in both directions for several hours while the tanker was removed and officers investigated what happened.

Diversions were in place and drivers were asked to avoid the area.
