Downsview Crescent verges to be reinforced with plastic

Grass verges in Downsview Crescent, Uckfield, are to be reinforced with a plastic material after the failure of a previous effort to reinstate them.

East Sussex Highways says the plastic will allow the grass to regrow, while providing a more solid surface.

The verges have suffered for years because vehicles park on them while children are dropped off and picked up from nearby schools.

The latest works are due to start on Saturday, December 19, and continue for up to 11 days, including over the weekend, but with a break for Christmas.

After being reinforced the verges will be topped with soil and seeded.

The seeding is to take place in April 2021, and barriers will remain in place while the seed germinates and establishes.

The highways department says the road will remain open with footway closures in place. Access for residents will be unaffected.
