Traffic congestion in Downsview Crescent, Uckfield, is leading to road safety concerns.
East Sussex County Council is in talks with Uckfield College and Manor Primary School about the issues, town councillors were told on Monday (October 26).
The street, on the Manor Park Estate, near the two schools is particularly choked at times when pupils are dropped off and collected but road width is narrowed in many places throughout the day by cars parked on both sides of the road, on pavements, or on verges.
Cllr Claire Dowling, who is the county’s Lead Member for Transport and the Environment, told town councillors she had asked officers to speak with both the college and school and an initial meeting had taken place.
“There is going to be a follow-up meeting by road safety in the not too distant future,” she said.
‘A lot of trouble’
Cllr Dowling, who represent Uckfield North on East Sussex County Council, said: “We have issues with congestion, parking on verges, staff parking at Downsview Crescent and throw into the mix the building works [Uckfield College] and there is a lot of trouble in that part of the town.
“We had concerns anyway with the building and obviously Covid-19 and social distancing has added into the mix.”
She said the county council was well aware of the problems and was seeing what it could do help the schools.
