Uckfield and District Lions extended their successful diabetes screening service to Heathfield on Saturday (October 31).
The offices of the Wealden Talking Newspaper in Cherwell Road, Heathfield, were utilised.
The glucose content of one drop of blood was read and each person advised according to their reading and when they had last eaten.
David Skinner, Pharmacist Diabetes Officer, Uckfield and District Lions Club, said: “As a further service, everyone was offered the Diabetes UK Risk Assessment which requires body measurement to be done in the patient’s home.
“This assessment indicates the probability of the patient developing diabetes in future years and indicates appropriate action to be taken by the patient for each recorded score.”
The new service was attended by Bexhill and Battle MP, Hugh Merrima.
The number of people screened was 84.
Everyone over 6.0mmol/l was counselled and offered dietary advice where appropriate.
People reading above 7.0mmol/l were recommended for a further check where appropriate.
Everybody tested had satisfactory readings with several people being advised to take a further test.
The Lions carry out annual diabetes testing in Uckfield.
