Victoria Pleasure Ground, Uckfield, set for more improvements

Developers to pay for more work at Victoria Ground, Uckfield

Further improvements to the Victoria Pleasure Ground are in the pipeline as Uckfield Town Council considers how to spend about £13,000 of “roof tax” money.

Councillors have put forward various ideas for consideration including adult fitness equipment, a “fitness mile” and resurfacing the tennis courts.

Developers of the new homes on Eastbourne Road paid nearly £68,000 to provide, improve and maintain youth and adult play facilities at the Victoria Ground as a condition of gaining planning permission.

A multi-use games area has been created at a cost of £55,000 leaving £13,000 to be spent.

Cllr Alan Whittaker suggested the establishment of a “fitness mile”, suitable surfaced and way-marked.

Cllr Louise Eastwood pointed out how adult fitness equipment newly provided at the Hempstead Road play area was extremely popular.

Cllr Jeremy Hallett said there could be a case for resurfacing the tennis courts.

A final decision will be made later once council officers have conducted more research.
