Uckfield town councillors who are standing down at next month’s elections have been thanked by mayor, Ian Smith.

Cllr Smith paid tribute to their work at the conclusion of the final full meeting of the current council.

“I am very grateful to everyone here for the support they have given me in the past couple of years.

“For those of you who are taking leave of the council, I wish you well.

“It has been a particularly difficult year. It has been tinged with some controversy and it has been difficult at times to keep it all together.

“In general, I think we have held it together in the face of some adversity at times.

“I have enjoyed my second year of office as mayor,” he said.

Cllr Smith gave each retiring member of the council a small gift.
