Dates have been fixed for Uckfield Festival 2017 and an outline of plans has been revealed.
The festival will run from Friday, July 7, to Sunday, July 16 and the big day with its parade of schoolchildren through town and events on the Luxford Field will take place on Saturday, July 8.
Festival chairman Dorothy Sparks told a meeting on Saturday that a theme has not yet been chosen but events are already being planned such as an Uckfield Theatre Guild production of Grease on the first Friday and Saturday, the Kit Car Grand Prix on the first Sunday, and a classic car rally too.
The Festival Club will be held each weekday evening at the Civic Centre and Uckfield Decorative and Fine Arts will be giving a talk for the first time.
Also new will be a Forest Classical event in Fairwarp where there will be classical music in the forest. In addition it is hoped a comedian will be booked and Uckfield Concert Brass is thinking of performing Carmina Burana in conjunction with some singers.
Some years ago there were circus workshops on the Luxford Field on the Big Day and it is hoped to reintroduce those.
It is also hoped to use Bridge Cottage for several events.
The programme was outlined at the annual general meeting of the festival association in the Ashdown Room, at Uckfield Civic Centre, where refreshments were provided for those who attended.
Officers re-elected were chair Dorothy Sparks, treasurer David Dalton and the new secretary is to be David Brown. He is taking over from Kay Frost.
Mr Dalton reported there was £10,000 available towards organising the festival in 2017, including a grant of £3,500 from Uckfield Town Council.
Mrs Sparks thanked everybody who had helped with the festival in 2016 which was a success enabling people in the arts and business to show off their skills and wares.
The theme of this year’s festival was Film, chosen as the Uckfield Picture House celebrated its centenary. Here is a reminder of the colourful children’s parade.
