Town councillors welcomed plans for an Uckfield U3A group to use part of the Victoria Pleasure Ground as a croquet lawn.
Members agreed last night (February 8) the charge should be £10 a session, to be reviewed after three months.
Original story on February 8
Croquet could be played twice a week this summer at the Victoria Pleasure Ground, Uckfield.
Paul Watson reports
Town councillors will be told tonight (February 8) the council has been approached by “an organisation” which would like to play twice a week from May.
A 35 yard x 28 yard piece of land for a croquet lawn is needed, which will need marking out.
The report states: “Groundstaff have stated that this could be accommodated without an disruption to other users and with little preparation, apart from the initial marking out and ‘topping’ up of the boundary lines.”
There has, as yet, been no request for pavilion facilities.
Councillors will consider the report and, if agreed, will set charges.
They are given examples of what other organisations pay to hire pitches, including pavilion facilities.
For example, football – a senior team hiring the Victoria would pay £812 per season for the pitch (junior £351).
Cricket – the seasonal fee for the Victoria (grass wicket) is £1,149 (£689 artifical); stoolball – £201 per team.
