Uckfield Anderida hosted local rivals Maresfield in a bottom of the table clash at The Vic. Both knew victory would give them a really good chance of staying up in the league while the other would be in huge trouble.
It was Uckfield who were on the back foot early, after winning the toss and unusually electing to bowl, writes David Tungate.
The Uckfield bowlers couldn’t quite hit their lengths and the Maresfield openers Dave Whitlock and Mark Poole took advantage, with good running and putting away the bad deliveries.
Once Whitlock departed for 46, Poole continued his excellent innings and reached three figures with back to back boundaries off Jordan Sinclair-Bailey.
He fell for 115 to pick of the bowlers David Tungate (2-26), and then Uckfield took control, limiting the boundary options and taking their catches, as Maresfield lost wickets regularly in the pursuit of a par score of 240.
With Manthan Vyas picking up 1-23, and Paul Iswariah 2-46, Maresfield finished on 224-7.
As Uckfield’s innings began, they had huge ambitions that they could chase this down.
Matt Bennett picked up the wicket of makeshift opener Chris Brady for 5, however Uckfield made 36-1 off their first ten overs, with Chris Moore picking up three boundaries in one over.
This was when the rain intervened. It rained hard and constantly, and the decision was made to come off.
That was unfortunately the last play of the match, and you couldn’t help but think the rain took away an excellent game, in what would have been a thrilling run chase. Both teams took 10 points from the game.
Uckfield Anderida travel to Newhaven next week.
