Cricket – Pett were always in control against Uckfield Anderida

Uckfield Anderida took on Pett at Victoria Pleasure Ground on a blustery afternoon and made the worst possible start after being put into bat, writes David Tungate.

They lost Chris Moore to the eighth ball of the game and looked to consolidate, with Nick Huntley joining captain David Tungate in negotiating the excellent Pett opening bowlers.

Pressure

They set a base, and with Huntley (19) departing just before the 20th over, it left Uckfield 57-2.

Pett kept the pressure on, bowling tightly and fielding well, the 13-year-old Henry Ware being particularly impressive.

With Uckfield 106-4 off 32 overs, even 150 looked beyond them. However, Uckfield went through the gears, targeting the short, straight boundary.

Century

Tungate brought up his century in the 34th over, and then pushing on, hit Alex Berwick for 19 and 21 off his two of his three overs. With superb support from Manthan Vyas, Uckfield finished on 195-5, Tungate finishing 133 not out.

Uckfield started well with the ball, opener Chris Brady bowling Adam Murphy for 0.

Manthan Vyas joined Brady in the wicket column, but then Pett kicked on.

Brutal

Ben Harris (63) and Luke Crisford came together to settle everything down, being brutal on anything short.

With Pett 122-2 after 20 overs, it looked to be game over. However, Dan Green then came into the attack.

Bowling with control, he took two Pettwickets, including Harris, and when Anthony Muggeridge chipped in, Pett were five down, and Uckfield were beginning to think the win was on.

Big effort

Unfortunately, it was not, despite another three wickets (two from John Lee), Pett were always in control of the run chase, and got to their target of 195 in just under 35 overs. Another big effort from Uckfield Anderida, however another defeat.

Next week Uckfield make the short journey to rivals Maresfield, where a defeat would seal their inevitable relegation, and the second team host Chiddingly, in a real relegation battle at the Vic.
