On a breezy Saturday afternoon, Uckfield Anderida hosted Robertsbridge, and with a damp wicket and muggy conditions captain David Tungate, who has written this report, elected to bowl first.
This did not prove to be the right call, with the Robertsbridge openers getting their side off to an electric start.
They were 41-0 off 4 overs, and 91-1 off 7 overs, with Collins and Johnson doing most of the damage.
Uckfield pulled it back though, Tungate (1-21), Burns (3-26) and Muggeridge (1-22) gave Uckfield control, stopping Robertsbridge kicking on from their excellent start.
Robertsbridge regrouped and hit useful, late runs down the order. These came from McLean and Collins, who eventually finished on 213-9.
Uckfield started well, especially with the returning Pete Holman(42), who hit 24 in one over but that good start of of 41-0 turned into 49-3, thanks to the spin twins Gearney (2-23) and Keeley (2-20).
Matt Reed was the mainstay of the Uckfield innings, hitting 51 not out. He had good support from Jon Ralph (21), wicket keeper batsman Andrew Shelley (21) and Ant Muggeridge (15), however Uckfield were always fractionally behind where they needed to be, eventually finishing 14 runs short, on 201-5.
Another good effort from Anderida, however another narrow loss.
Uckfield will look to avenge this narrow loss at Lewes St. Michael’s next week, with the second team hosting promotion hopefuls Tunbridge Wells.
