The sun was shinning, the covers were off, and that meant one thing … cricket was back at Victoria as Uckfield Anderida took on Eastbourne 3s. writes Tom Grimes.
Uckfield won the toss on the newly laid square and decided to field first, writes Tom Grimes.
Eastbourne openers S. Holder 53 and F Hicks 69 got Eastbourne off to a steady start.
Uckfields opening bowler’s M. Reed and D.Gee toiled away without success on a deck not offering a lot.
The introduction of M.Greenslade accounted for both openers finishing with 3-48 off 8 overs.
C.Brady 3-28 off 8 accounted for the middle wickets with superb help from N.Boniface 2-31-7 and L.Banks 2-31-4. Eastbourne were eventually bowled out for 226.
Shaky start
Uckfield response got off to a shaky start losing opener, C.Burns second ball for 4. M.Mccallum and R.Coates started the recovery, with Eastbourne opening bowlers Chell and Brady causing trouble with pace and late movement.
At 20 overs Uckfield were struggling at 70-4. Uckfield captain M. Taylor came in and took the attack to the opposition and top scoring with 33 before a superb catch halted the fight back.
M.Reed continued where Taylor had left off and finished unbeaten on 23, however the target was just too much and Uckfield were bowled out for 162.
Overall a great game, and a welcome return to cricket.
