Update at 4.30pm: Uckfield Town Council has taken the difficult decision to close Luxfords Restaurant from today (Friday, March 20) until further notice.
The Civic Centre in Uckfield, home to Uckfield Town Council, will be closed this weekend and then close its doors fully to the public from Tuesday, March 24.
The Town Council will still run but operate differently, with reduced opening hours between 10.00am and 2.00pm, Tuesday to Thursday, each week.
Residents and other members of the public should continue to contact the council via email at email@example.com or by telephone 01825 762774 rather than in person.
Town clerk Holly Goring said: “We would like to reassure you that emails and telephone calls will continue to be picked up throughout the week (Monday to Friday), but with reduced staffing levels, we felt it necessary to restrict our official opening hours.
“And don’t forget, if you have an urgent matter that needs addressing, you can also contact your local town councillor. Their contact details are available on the Town Council website – https://www.uckfieldtc.gov.uk/your-council/local-councillors/.
“These are difficult times where advice is changing daily and we will keep you updated on any future changes with press releases, via our website – https://www.uckfieldtc.gov.uk/news/, – on our social media pages – https://www.facebook.com/uckfieldtowncouncil/ and https://twitter.com/UckfieldTC and with notices on the front door of the Civic Centre.
“We thank you for your patience.
The Bluebell Railway has announced it is suspending its train services and closing until further notice.
The heritage steam railway in Sussex had originally decided to stay open and run a minimal service this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22) with enhanced health protection measures in place but now says the national and global situation with coronavirus means it will have to close.
Bluebell Railway plc chairman Chris Hunford said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers and visitors remains our priority.”
He added: “Some people have been calling up asking if we’re open and saying they still intend to travel this weekend although several people have also called asking to defer their bookings.
“Taking all this into account and the latest Government advice, we have decided to suspend all services this weekend and the railway will close until further notice.”
During the closure, there will be no trains running and the shop and catering outlets will not be open to visitors although the railway’s online shop will continue to trade.
Mr Hunford said the railway would keep the situation under constant review in the coming days and weeks and assess the situation as it evolves.

This is due to staff shortages caused by Coronavirus. The college will be open for Years 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13.
Mini fun sessions at Sky High Trampoline Academy at Fun Abounds on the Bellbrook Estate, Uckfield, have been cancelled until further notice.
The Lavender Line heritage railway at Isfield has closed temporarily because of the virus. Initially the closure will run until April 25.
The registered charity says this was a necessary decision, due to the current situation and it’s main priority, at all times, is the safety and wellbeing of visitors and volunteers.
But the Lavender Line relies on its visitors to keep it running today and for future visitors to enjoy so during closure it will have no income.
The charity asks if you can help by donating to them, however large or small. Please visit the website www.lavender-line.co.uk – where you will find a Donation to the Station Roof appeal.
The charity says: “We are extremely grateful for your support and generosity. Please help to keep the Lavender Line.
“The Volunteers at the Lavender Line would like to offer you and your families our very best wishes at this difficult time and we look forward to welcoming you all again before too long.”
