There was a winning start to the August Cup for Uckfield Anderida 1st XI at the weekend while the 2nd XI were soundly beaten. Read reports here from Tom Grimes.
1st XI
Uckfield 1st XI travelled to Ringmer on a warm, breezy Saturday in the first round of the August Cup.
After winning the toss and batting, Uckfield posted a competitive 226 for 3.
Solid half century
Richard Coates and Kevin Morton shared a 100 plus opening stand, with Coates finishing on 89 not out and the anchor for the innings. Nick Huntley contributed with a solid half century.
After a DIY tea, Dan Gee on his first XI debut took three wickets in bowling out the opposition someway short of what was needed.
All round it was a great team effort in getting off to a winning start to the August Cup.
2nd XI
In contrast the 2nd XI got soundly beaten by Newick at the Victoria Ground.
Newick won the toss and elected to field, Chris Moore and Tom Grimes reunited as openers made a good start to the Uckfield Innings, putting on 44 for the first wicket.
A flurry of quick wickets saw Uckfield in trouble at 58-3.
Moore was finally out for a well made 33, leaving Uckfield at 85-4.
Attack
Skipper, Matt Taylor, and Lewis Banks tried to attack but runs were hard to come by with some excellent fielding from the opposition. Uckfield were eventually bowled out for 130.
Newick’s innings got off to a slow start with J. Lee having opener A.Heasman out for a duck second ball.
After that Newick took control T. Pike 54 and A. Wilkind 34 both retiring to give others a chance.
Mark Greenslade bowled with great control and was unlucky not to get a wicket, finished with 0-27-8.
