Yet more bottles and waste have built up at an Uckfield recycling ‘bring site’ since Wealden Council has requested urgent clearance.
The alarm was raised about overflowing bins by resident Owen Hoy on Wednesday and the promise of urgent action came swiftly on Thursday morning but yesterday evening the problem was still growing.
The site is in Tesco car park and the store management is so concerned about customer safety that they have collected bottles from the road surface and placed them in two containers.
Mr Hoy has written again to Wealden waste manager Christopher Bone saying: “Frankly I am not at all impressed as yet more empty promises have been made by you and Wealden District Council with regards to the collection of waste from “Bring Sites”, namely that of the Tesco car park in Uckfield because once again nothing has been cleared.”
Mr Hoy says he discussed the on-going issue with the duty manager at Tesco who said he had been told by Wealden that the waste hadn’t been collected because of a lack of crews.
Mr Hoy says in his letter to Mr Bone that is not acceptable. “Does Wealden District Council really think that we, the members of public, are complete and utter idiots, and don’t actually care about our environment? I have news for you, the majority of us do so. When is this site going to be cleared please?”
