Uckfield is awash with blue following the Wealden District Council election results declaration. All four of the town’s wards elected Conservative councillors.
The votes were counted yesterday (May 9) after Thursday’s polll.
In the Uckfield Central, Claire Dowling was re-elected and will be joined by fellow Conservative Helen Firth who retained Uckfield New Town.
Cllr Dowling, said: “Thanks to everyone who voted for me. I am pleased to be returned to represent this town.
“My campaigning on the doorsteps was about working for people and I look forward to doing that for the local community.”
Carol Reynolds, who had previously been a Conservative district councillor in Crowborough, was elected in the Uckfield North ward alongside Peter Waldock.
Cllr Reynolds (below), said: “I have been a district councillor before in Crowborough. It is my intention to serve the people of Uckfield North in the same way I did there regardless of who they voted for.”
The Conservative clean sweep of wards was completed by Barry Marlowe who won the Uckfield Ridgewood ward. He had previously been a councillor representing a Hailsham ward.
Cllr Marlowe, said: “I am very pleased and grateful to achieve a nice big majority. I thank those who have voted for me and the confidence they have shown in me.”
In the surrounding villages, the Conservatives were celebrating victories of Ann Newton in Framfield and Toby Illingworth and Michael Lunn in Buxted and Maresfield.
Cllr Illingworth, said: “I am delighted to have been elected. I look forward to representing all members of the community and not just those who voted for me.
“I am excited but slightly daunted. I hope to bring Buxted and Maresfield into the 21st Century and work on mobile reception in the area.”
First-time candidate in an election, Matt Stribley for the Green party Uckfield New Town, described the experience as positive, despite not winning.
Mr Stribley,said: “We (the Green party) have been able to offer something for people to vote for other than the main parties and I personally have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

* Newly elected MP Nus Ghani was present at the East Sussex National Resort Hotel where the declaration was taking place to support her fellow Conservatives in Wealden.
Ms Ghani, said: “Thursday was a good day for democracy. It’s now for councillors to represent their community.’
“Councillors do far more than most people think and are involved in decision making that effects everyone everyday.”
