Concern about over-use of Millennium Green, Uckfield

Over-use of the Millennium Green is feared once 1,000 homes are built on Ridgewood Farm, Uckfield.

Town councillor Alan Whittaker, who represents the town council on the Green’s management trust, said attempts to have the area designated a SANG (Suitable Natural Alternative Green Space), making it eligible for financial support to counter degradation caused by increased use, had failed.

“Until the approved SANG for the new development has matured, it is expected that Millennium Green will be subject to heavy and possibly unsustainable pedestrian traffic,” he said.

He added that It was, potentially, a very serious problem.

A meeting of the town council’s environment and leisure committee, queried when the SANG area for the Ridgewood Farm development would be opened.
