All that remains of two touring caravans and a Landrover Discovery after an arson attack on Friday night.

Caravans and Landrover destroyed in arson attack

Two touring caravans and a Landrover Discovery were destroyed in an arson attack in Uckfield on Friday night.

They belonged to Matt Dicks and were in woodland owned by him off Rocks Road. Neither the caravans nor the Landrover were insured and he reckons that together they were worth between £3,000 and £5,000.

Another view of the site where two caravans and a Landrover Discovery were burned out after a fire was deliberately started with petrol on Friday night.

But it’s not just the financial cost he is worried about. He has also lost items of sentimental value, including pictures of his children when they were young, they are now aged 16 and 19.

Matt says it was lucky that four gas bottles secured in one of the lockers in one of the caravans, didn’t explode. They burned up but surprisingly didn’t explode.

He has been told by the police and fire service that the fire was started deliberately using petrol. He has no idea why.

Police have asked whether he had any enemies or had argued with anybody but he says he hasn’t and he doesn’t know why his property would have been targeted.

Matt told Uckfield News: “It is horrendous that this has happened and so close to Christmas too. I can’t understand why someone would do it.”

He is hoping somebody might have seen a suspicious vehicle parked by the bridge over the by-pass in Rocks Road on Friday night, or have any other information about the arson attack.

If you can help please contact Matt via his Facebook page, or by email on
