Pressure is being put on train operator Southern to bring back an Oxted – Uckfield shuttle.
They were a regular feature of the evening services until the reorganisation of the rail timetable in May.
The shuttles provided an all-stations stopping service while some of the trains out of London Bridge were “flyers” – not stopping at some intermediate stations.
‘Filled the gap’
The services from Oxted filled the gap between an hourly service out of London and also linked with trains from London Victoria.
An extra service was begun in May from London Bridge at 17:37hrs but there was a gap towards the end of the peak evening service.
The Uckfield Railway Line Parishes Committee is pressing Southern to reinstate the 19:07hrs shuttle from Oxted.
It is also pressing Southern on the long-running problem of late-running services terminating at Crowborough, rather than pressing on to Buxted and Uckfield.
What is known locally as the Crowborough reverse has been a sore in the side of commuters for some years.
