From our original story on Tuesday, September 12: Uckfield firefighters entertained a pack of dogs last week as a calendar shoot was held ready to raise funds for The Firefighters Charity.

The calendar is being put together by Heathfield-based Black Dog Home Boarding which provides home-from-home care for dogs while their owners are on holiday.

About 40 dogs belonging to clients are taking part in a shoot at different fire stations, including Uckfield, Crowborough, Eastbourne, and Heathfield. The best of the pictures will be chosen for the 2018 calendar.

Jane Palmer, who runs Black Dog Home Boarding, says East Sussex Fire and Rescue has helped put the photo shoot together and she hopes to get great pictures for the calendar, of dogs, fire engines and firefighters.

Jane said it was two years ago while training for the London Marathon that she and her husband were looking for other ways of raising money for the Guide Dogs charity they were running for, and she thought about putting together a calendar.

They have featured clients dogs in calendars for the last two years and Jane wanted to do something different this year.

A pause in proceedings during a calendar shoot at Uckfield Fire Station.

“The Firefighters Charity came up as a number of our sitters have connections to people within the service, so together with my friend Mani Gilbert King, who is borough commander of Wealden and Eastbourne Fire and Rescue, we hatched the idea of getting our clients dogs to come to selected fire stations have their their pictures taken.

“There will also be an important fire safety message through the calendar.”

The calendars will be sold to raise funds for The Firefighters Charity and a percentage will also go to Smokey Paws who supply pet oxygen masks to the fire service and other animal related businesses.

The 2018 Charity Calendar will be available to buy online from the end of September from www.blackdoghomeboarding-sussex.co.uk.
