Litter on the A22 Uckfield by-pass

BY-PASS LITTER: ‘Disgusting, appalling, awful’

Litter on the verges of the Uckfield by-pass needs to be cleared as soon as possible.

That’s the view of Uckfield Town Council which is seeking to press the responsible authorities to tackle the work.

The rubbish, exposed in the last week after the verges were cut, is disfiguring the look of the approaches to the town.

Cllr Chris Macve, Tuest Independent, Uckfield North, outlined the issues at Monday’s (January 15) meeting of the full town council.

He said: “Now they have cut all the verges East Sussex is disgusting. It is awful.

Eastbourne – Forest Row

“They have cut from the boundary of Eastbourne right up to Forest Row on the A22 and they are going to do the A26.

“It shows how much rubbish there is around.

“It is appalling.”

He asked for pressure to be put on the authorities to get it cleared up because “it does not give a very good impression of this district at all”.

Councillors asked the town clerk, Holly Goring, to formally contact East Sussex and Wealden councils, plus the Highways Agency, to try and get something done as soon as possible.
