Buxted Inn wins third Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor

The Buxted Inn at Buxted has received a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel website, for the third year running.

The certificate is awarded to properties that “consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor” and The Buxted Inn owner Jason Bailey said he was pleased to win a certificate carrying the maximum five stars again.

He said the award was a great bench mark for the team and comments on the TripAdvisor website were taken very seriously.

The inn has been in Jason’s family – his parents ran it before him – for 33 years and the values they set are carried on today. “Their way of looking after people remains important,” said Jason.

Annie Barden has worked at The Buxted Inn for all 33 years and Celia Hazelden and Clare Felstein have both worked there for 15 years. It is a matter of pride to Jason that turnover among staff is low.

Jason also likes to give young people an opportunity to train at the inn. Two new apprentices are due to start work there just as another, Rosie Hunnisett completes her one-to-one training. “If the new apprentices work like Rosie they are guaranteed a job with us at the end of their apprenticeships,” said Jason.

A Year 10 student from Uckfield Community Technology College, Kiri Standing, has completed a work placement at the inn, spending time in housekeeping, the kitchen and front of house and she will be staying on having been offered a part-time job front of house.

The hotel side of the business is proving popular and Jason said he could do with a few more rooms for guests but he is working through a five year programme of refurbishment and the next task on the list is to refurbish the bar and restaurant.

The plan is to close for two weeks in January before opening with new décor and furniture.

Look out for staff from The Buxted Inn at the village fete on Saturday, September 12, because they will be running the bar there as well as making sure it is business as usual back at the inn.
