A £1.1 million refurbishment to Wealden’s retirement living complex at Buxted Court has just been completed, providing a facelift to 30 retirement flats.
The improvements are part of a major programme of refurbishment to the council’s retirement living homes.
The refurbishment includes the conversion of eight bedsits into single bedroom flats providing residents with a walk-in shower and improved kitchen, adding to their space and comfort.
A further ten have benefited from remodelling which has included lay-out changes to provide residents with more open space.
Meeting needs of older residents
Councillor Graham Wells, Cabinet member for Housing, said: “This is one part of £11.5 million of capital improvements we are making to public housing in Wealden this financial year and the first in a number of improvements we are making to our retirement living properties over the next ten years to help meet the needs of our older residents.”
“The refurbishment and re-modelling at Buxted Court has been carried out with a minimum amount of disruption to our residents by our contractors Niblock, who generously included a refurbishment of Buxted Court’s communal kitchen, at their own cost, as part of the refurbishment programme.”
Councillor Wells inspected the improvements with representatives from the contractors and afterwards joined residents of Buxted Court at an opening reception.
One of residents, Ron Twigg, thanked the contractors for the care and consideration they had shown the complex’s residents when carrying out the work.
