Businesses show interest in empty Uckfield shops

It looks as if the former Ryan’s of Uckfield shop at the corner of Uckfield High Street and Grange Road is to become an Italian delicatessen and sandwich shop.

Commercial agent Chris Lawson of Lawson Commercial said a company with another branch in Kent is interested in the premises.

“It is early days yet but lawyers have been instructed,” said Mr Lawson who added that the landlord had considered three offers for the shop before making a decision.

Two offers are on the table for Corbins the delicatessen which closed after Christmas. One has been accepted and is being checked. The shop might be a sandwich, takeaway and coffee shop.

And two businesses are interested in taking over the former Pizza Zone premises at the top of the High Street. One is a southern fried chicken business and the other a pizza and grill.

Mr Lawson said KFC were still keen to open in Uckfield but haven’t been able to find the right premises. They want something on the fringes of the High Street.

Lawson Commercial has now been instructed to market the premises in New Olives which are currently occupied by Swindells the accountants. Swindells are moving to new offices at Atlantic House on the Bellbrook Industrial Estate.

The offices off Uckfield High Street are 2,000 sq ft over two floors and are available freehold for £225,000.

Access is via Olives Yard at the moment – while fire-damaged buildings at the front of the site are refurbished – though there is a private pathway to the offices from the High Street.

The offices escaped damage in the fire.
