Browns Lane lights raise record amount for charity

A spectacular display of Christmas lights decorating a house in Browns Lane, Uckfield, have been seen for the last time.

Martin and Jackie Ensom have covered their house and garden with illuminated decorations for many years – they are said to be seen even from aircraft coming into Gatwick – and raised funds for charity in the process.

But now due to the age of the decorations and the cost of the energy they use the couple have decided to call it a day and the displays that have attracted people from far and wide will be seen no more.

Uckfield Lions, who help Santa tour Uckfield and surrounding villages with his sleigh each year, have traditionally stopped outside the house and added to the money collected there.

The Lions say this year’s was the best-ever collection and the Ensoms joined president Bob Eaves to present cheques totalling more than £1,000 to Jean Bishop of the Salvation Army’s Eastbourne Citadel to support the Army’s Centre for the Homeless in Eastbourne.
