Brighter Uckfield gets new trophies thanks to Chamber of Commerce

The Brighter Uckfield group has new trophies to present to winners of their annual garden competition thanks to Uckfield Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber president Bernard Smith presented a cheque yesterday, for £256, to volunteer members of the group, who do so much to keep the town clean.

Brighter Uckfield chairman Ian Smith said the money had already been spent on eight new trophies, desperately needed as the originals were rusting after 11 years of service.

He said Brighter Uckfield would be very pleased to present the new awards to competition winners at a ceremony on Saturday. “The others were looking very tarnished but people will be able to enjoy and appreciate the new ones.”

Bernard said the Chamber was pleased to contribute to the efforts of Brighter Uckfield.

He told them: “We know you do a wonderful job keeping the town looking its very best. It is really important to our members, and to visitors, that people can come into the town and have a good experience. You guys do a phenomenal job.

“Your sense of community, as volunteers, is one of the things that makes the town so special.”

Brighter Uckfield treasurer Martin Barnett said they were grateful to all the people who assisted them financially, particularly now, when they were at the point when they needed new equipment to make it better for the people helping to keep the town clean.

He added they got a huge amount of support from local businesses who supplied materials and volunteer help.
