Bookkeepers gathered at a coffee morning in Uckfield yesterday to celebrate their profession.
The hosts were Team4 Solutions, who are based at the Old Roller Mill, and the occasion was to mark Global Bookkeeping Week and the work bookkeepers do for local businesses, including bookkeeping, management accounts, VAT, and tax returns.
The bookkeepers, from the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, were welcomed by Claire Packham, the owner of Team4 Solutions. She has been a bookkeeper for more than 25 years, set up her own practice seven years ago, and now employs 18 staff and has about 200 clients.
Making Tax Digital
The celebration comes at a time when many businesses are grappling with the introduction of Making Tax Digital.
This requires VAT-registered businesses, with a taxable turnover above the VAT threshold, to use commercial software to maintain accounting records, and file VAT returns online.
Claire said: “With all the changes coming in for Making Tax Digital we find we are best placed to help our clients navigate through the choices they need to make about accounting software and then guide them through set up and creating systems that make their lives easier.”
HM Revenue and Customs estimates that only half of the businesses affected by Making Tax Digital are using appropriate digital record keeping and submission software.
The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers recommends that businesses speak to their agent or one of the institute’s bookkeepers and start keeping their business records digitally sooner rather than later.
