Book Week fun for Holy Cross children

Book Week gave children from Holy Cross Primary School, Uckfield, the chance to explore the magic of books through meeting authors, taking part in competitions, and dressing up as their favourite characters.

Each day there were special Worship assemblies led by teachers where traditional tales learned about in class were read aloud.

Key Stage 2 children were visited by Lulah Elender, author of Elizabeth’s Lists. Lulah brought in her grandmother’s photos and lists, which she used to write her book.

Lulah said afterwards: “It was such a pleasure to meet the children – what an engaged, enthusiastic, lovely bunch they all were. So many interesting questions, and they all listened really well.”

At the end of the week there was chance for all to dress up as their favourite book characters. The teachers and staff chose characters from the traditional tales the children had been learning about in class.

There was a parade around the school during Worship so the costumes could be admired.

Jason Rhodes, the author of Imagine Eating Lemons, visited too. He read his story and shared some mindfulness techniques – breathing in slowly and feeling the tingling in fingers and nose.

Jason also gave out copies of his book and held a book signing session after school.
