It’s been a big year for Barracloughs opticians in Uckfield. Hot on the heels of refurbishment which has changed their store completely they have won an award for Professional Service Provider of the Year.
The family-run independent optician can be found at 53 High Street, Uckfield. It also has branches in St Leonards-on-Sea, Battle, Eastbourne, Lewes, Polegate, Seaford and Uckfield.
The Uckfield store was closed for refurbishment during the whole of July and re-opened to reveal a more inviting look.
Walls were knocked down, and new walls put up, to make more room for more specialist services.
The premises are more accessible for wheelchairs, and it’s easier for all, including the elderly, and parents, to get in and out.
Staff areas have been improved too but the most commented on feature has been bespoke door handles in the shape of the spectacles from the Barracloughs logo.
Barracloughs IT and Operations Manager Dave Cleworth said: “Overall it’s a nicer environment to work in and better for customers too.”
Barracloughs were delighted to win the Professional Service Provider of the Year at the East Sussex Business Awards last month. This accompanies other awards received over the past few years including Employer of the Year, Customer Service of the Year and Overall Business of the Year.
The opticians take pride in the personal service they offer. They make sure plenty of time is available for each customer to have a thorough eye examination and help with their needs afterwards.
Next on the agenda is the arrival of new equipment. One piece will enable 3D measurements to be taken of the face which will help to allow eyewear to fit individual features perfectly.
They also offer OCT scanning which allows the optician to take an in depth look at the eyes, seeing the different layers and enabling earlier indications to be spotted of eye, and other health, conditions.
“It is amazing what can be detected,” said Dave.
Barracloughs opened in Uckfield four years ago, taking over the former Private Eye store and being joined by their staff, and taking on the customer base of Clive Hazelgrove Optometrists following Clive’s retirement.
Now Barracloughs are keen to get more involved in Uckfield community activity, and happy to be approached to get involved with events.
