Bell Walk Dry Cleaners install eco-friendly cleaning system

Out goes the old chemical-using dry cleaning machine from Bell Walk Dry Cleaners.

Bell Walk Dry Cleaners in Uckfield have installed a new environmentally-friendly wet cleaning system.

Out has gone the old dry cleaning machine, which used oil-based solvents, and in has come a water-based system.

Owner Glen Dixon is delighted with the change. Initially he didn’t believe the new machine would give the same results as the old one but it does, and in a shorter time.

He said: “Traditional dry cleaning methods involve many chemicals – including perchlorethylene which can cause harm to the environment.

“We are committed to bringing dry cleaning into the 21st century and the decision to install a cleaning system that is kinder to the environment while still producing outstanding cleaning results was a no brainer for us.”

Now in place are 21st century cleaning machines at Bell Walk Dry Cleaners. The water-based cleaning machine is pictured centre.

Glen says the first goods cleaned using the new technology will go out of the door on Wednesday (October 14).

He says the old dry cleaning system washed goods in chemicals with water used to cool the system.

The new Lagoon Advanced Care system, developed by Electrolux, cleans in water and detergent but uses less water and electricity than the old machine.
