Leading children’s charity Barnardo’s is urgently looking for foster carers in Uckfield and other East Sussex towns.
This week, during Barnardo’s Fostering and Adoption Week, the charity’s Fostering South-East service is appealing to ‘loving and supportive’ people in Uckfield, Lewes, Heathfield, Brighton and Hove, to consider fostering to make a difference to a child’s life.
Barnardo’s says there is currently a shortfall of 1,100 foster carers in the South-East, and the Fostering South-East service says that children are being left in care for years because there are not enough people to offer them a safe and nurturing home.
Transform a child’s life
The charity says a recent survey reveals that 71% of children in the South-East say the key to happiness is having a parent that believes in them, which shows the fundamental role parents, guardians and carers play in a child’s life. Fostering can transform a child’s life and give them the childhood they so desperately deserve.
Jonathan Whalley, Barnardo’s Regional South-East and Anglia Director, said: “We believe that every child deserves a safe, supportive and loving home and are calling on people in East Sussex to come forward to find out more about fostering.
Children aged 0 to 18
“We are keen to hear from people who might be able to look after children aged 0 to 18 years in their own homes. Children who, because of difficult early experiences in life, need additional help and support. We are also looking for carers for sibling groups as well as parent and child.”
