Award for Uckfield college chess club

Uckfield Community Technology Club chess club has been given a British Chess Educational Trust award for 2014.

It is only the fifth Sussex school to be honoured in this way in more than 100 years of these awards.

It was presented in recognition of the achievements of the college’s chess players since the club was set up less than four years ago.

The college has won all the Sussex senior schools’ trophies in various years and is currently the holder of the Wilson’s (U19) Cup. It also provides players for successful Sussex county teams.

The college received a fine wooden board and pieces and a digital clock which were presented in an assembly on Wednesday, November 5, by Sussex Junior Chess President Tom Borland and three-time British chess champion David Howell.
