An all-weather pitch for Uckfield moved closer to completion yesterday as a massive electrical cable was hooked up to the grid.
The cable has had to be moved after it was discovered to clip a corner of the pitch, which is now due for completion before the October half-term holiday.
Rolls of “carpet” have been delivered to the site at Uckfield Community Technology College in readiness to be put down as the playing surface.
UK Power Networks have been carrying out the electrical work.
Engineers were on site on Tuesday and on Wednesday they were due to cut the supply to homes in the vicinity of the college to allow the cable to be “jointed”. The cut did not take place and yesterday a temporary generator was installed in Knights Meadow to keep the power on to customers while the work was carried out.
There were two short-lived cuts while the generator was brought into use and then turned off.
Jeremy Hallett, spokesman the All Weather Pitch for Uckfield Committee, said: “Once UK Power has completed its works, the main contractors will restart work on the pitch Monday with completion before the October half-term, subject to good weather.”
