All singing, all dancing late night shopping in Uckfield

It was all happening at late night shopping in Uckfield tonight. There was singing, dancing, mulled wine and mince pies and the town was heaving with people.

Late night shopping brings crowds into Uckfield High Street.

Organisations had the chance to demonstrate their skills from children singing on the town stage, to Universal Dance performing in Olives Yard and then co-ordinating a flash mob who danced in the area outside Hartfields, writes Cathy Watson.

Spirit Elite wowed their audience near Bridge Cottage.

Firefighters showed what NOT to do in the event of a chip pan fire – never throw water into the pan and never be tempted to cover it with a damp cloth, they said. Get out of the house and call the fire service.

Their demonstration, captured in our video below, shows why they were insistent with their message.

Putting on the demonstration were Uckfield firefighter Steve Ramsey and Raj Baksi, the fire service’s commercial training manager who runs training for businesses. Anybody interested in fire emergency training is invited to call him on 01323 462141, or email him at

Tressler Coachwork were there with one of their courtesy cars on a trailer and handing out balloons and mince pies and there was a barbecue run by a team from Coopers Farm doing a roaring trade outside Truffles with profits of £250 going to the Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society.

One of the team, Jackie Love, said: “We just couldn’t cook fast enough but people were so wonderful waiting. Many thanks to those that bought our burgers and sausages and thanks to people for being patient.”
