Accident closes A26 between Uckfield and Crowborough

Update on Monday, December 8, at 3.40pm: Police are appealing for information following an accident which led to the closure of the A26 Uckfield to Crowborough road for four hours today.

They said a Suzuki jeep driving north and a van driving south, collided on the A26 just south of the Crow and Gate pub at 8.50am.

The 66-year old man driving the Suzuki was freed by firefighters and taken by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries where he was said to be in a stable condition.

The man driving the van was said to be “slightly injured”.

The A26 was closed in both directions and re-opened at 12.50pm.

Traffic is queuing in both directions following an accident said to involve three vehicles between the Sheep Plain junction and the Chillies Lane junction north of the Crow and Gate pub.
