Trampoline gymnast Abi Jaques did two double somersaults when Uckfield Rotary Club surprised her on Thursday with a cheque to help her compete internationally.
The Double Mini Trampoline gymnast is the current 17-21 British Champion but has now moved into the senior age group for competition and will take part in the British Championships in Birmingham this month.
She has already represented England in Sweden this year and was placed second to the current Senior Ladies World Champion.
Next she is due to represent England at the Loule Cup in Portugal in October but the competition is self-funded and that is why she needs help.
She has raised £816 via her GoFundMe page and was delighted with the bonus cheque from Uckfield Rotary Club.
She told Uckfield News: “It was a lovely surprise. The money will go towards my ongoing training and competition expenses.
“I often have to travel around the country for competitions and England training camps which are located in Lillishall four hours away.
“As a self-funded sport I have to pay for everything myself and I have recently paid for my England training and competition kit.
“My fund-raising is going well. I have received money through various people who have seen my campaign and offered help.
“I’m very grateful to Uckfield Rotary Club and everyone else who has donated. It has been lovely to see everyone being so supportive of me towards my goal.”
The Rotary Club donation was presented by Mike Abbott and John Nicholls on Thursday at Fun Abounds Trampoline Centre where Abi trains. They were impressed to watch Abi do two celebratory double somersaults afterwards.
John said the club had seen Abi’s appeal on Uckfield News and wanted to help. He said Abi’s somersaults were awe-inspiring and the club would be following her career with interest.
