£75 on-the-spot fines for dog fouling

Dog owners who fail to clear up after their pet in public places across Uckfield risk £75 on-the-spot fines from January 1.

Wealden District Council agreed the dog control order yesterday (Wednesday). It applies to the whole district.

rowena moore webCllr Rowena Moore, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, (pictured) said: “It is only a small proportion of dog owners who are being rather irresponsible.

“We need to change this culture. The vast majority of dog owners do clear up after their pets.”

Cllr Moore said the control order would be enforced by the council’s street scenes officers and PCSOs.

She hoped town and parish councils will be interested in provided trained officers to help with enforcement.

The Dog Control Order applies to all highways, footpaths, verges and twittens within Wealden District Council area as well as pedestrian areas, public parks and sports grounds, cemeteries, beaches and car parks.
