20mph signs removed from Uckfield High Street

20mph speed limit signs have been removed from Uckfield High Street as East Sussex County Council consults on the ‘proposed’ limit.20mph-speed-limit

An Uckfield News reader spotted the signs removed from Bell Lane near Tesco roundabout, and outside the Maidens Head, and asked why.

A council spokesman said:

“The 20mph signs were installed as part of the Uckfield Town Centre High Street Improvement Scheme.

“We now need to complete the necessary legal process and therefore the signs have been temporarily removed whilst we advertise the Traffic Regulation Order.

“This will be advertised early next month, initiating a 21-day consultation period in which people can comment on the proposed limit.

“If, taking into account any comments we receive, the decision is taken to press ahead with the 20mph speed limit, the signs will be reinstated.

“We would like to apologise if this has caused any confusion.”

Speed limit signs started appearing in Uckfield High Street in September 2016. See: Where does 20mph limit start in Uckfield High Street.
