Fifteen hundred Christmas trees are being unpacked and prepared for sale at Staverton Nursery at Halland, near Uckfield, and for the first time at the garden centre there are glittery decorations to compliment them.
It is nearly a year since a major extension was opened at the family-owned nursery and garden centre and that means there is plenty more room for stock they have always wanted to sell but never had the space for.
Matt Cottingham, grandson of the original founders of the business, said they sell everything you could need for the festive season from Christmas trees – which are displayed against frames so each can be inspected – to Brussels sprouts and there’s much more too as you will see in the Uckfield News photos below.
Matt says plants have always made popular Christmas gifts and this is the perfect time to settle many of them into the garden, including roses, so you can’t go wrong with adding them to your list.
Other seasonal outdoor plants include cyclamen, primroses, and there are shrubs too, such as skimmia and holly.
The top selling indoor plants at Staverton this year have been cacti and there are plenty of varieties to choose from. There are also indoor cyclamen, poinsettia, azalea and hyacinths.
Look out too for cards and calendars, garden furniture, ornaments and tools, pots, silk flowers, accessories for children – mini rakes, brooms, and watering cans – as well as for adults, from wellies to gloves.
• The Staverton Nursery team is inviting shoppers to join them for mulled punch and mince pies on Friday, December 15, from 2-6pm, and on Saturday, December 16, from 2-5pm.
• The nursery and garden centre are open six days a week, Monday to Saturday from 8am to 5.30pm.
