Would-be councillors at Uckfield drop-in session

Would-be district and town councillors learned what the role is all about at Uckfield Civic Centre on Saturday (September 20).

A morning session was arranged by Wealden District Council and supported by political parties and representatives of town and parish councils.

The next elections are in May 2015 and political groups are beginning to consider who will be their candidates.

Wealden District Council Chief Executive, Charles Lant, led the council’s team.

There was information about the personal and professional support councillors receive to help them in their daily role as community leaders, as well as an outline of the many varied services that Wealden District Council provides. There was also an opportunity to meet and ask questions of current councillors and officers.

Around 40-people attended one of the presentations in the Weald Hall.

A similar event will be held tonight (September 22) at Hailsham Civic Community Hall, 6pm.

The next scheduled district and town/parish council elections are scheduled for May 7, 2015.

*In the 2011elections to Uckfield Town Council no seats were contested. In each ward, the number of people nominated equalled the number of seats available.
