Work begins today on Hartfields Produce Store extension

Work is due to begin today on extending Hartfields Produce Store into the neighbouring building in Uckfield High Street.

Owner James Hartfield is hoping as much work as possible will be done on the former Autism Sussex shop in the next month before breaking through into the exising deli and cafe.

He is hoping to open the new restaurant at the end of June or early in July.

Everything will be new, counters, furniture, decoration.

The kitchen will double in size running the full width of the two shops and a bar will run the full length of the building.

Hartfields employs more than 20 people and that could increase in the future but the aim of the extension is to make everything more streamlined and efficient with the customers all on one level.

There will be seating for 75 people, an increase of about 15.

James said he is very pleased work is beginning. “It is going to look amazing when finished.”
