Vandals smash seat on Uckfield Millennium Green

Vandals have smashed a seat on Uckfield Millennium Green.

The attack happened sometime on Thursday and the damage was reported by a dog walker on Friday morning.

Chairman of the Millennium Green Trust Mick Harker said the damage was so extensive that it is not repairable so a replacement would be needed.

He added:  “Many of our seats have been donated by users of the green in memory of departed loved ones who want others to sit and enjoy the tranquility the green offers.

“Fortunately this isn’t one of the donated seats, but, unless we can find a sponsor, the replacement will need to be funded from our meagre resources.

“We are a bit concerned with this damage as if follows on from a litter bin being set on fire in the adjacent Ridgewood Recreation Ground.”

The vandalism has been reported to the police.

• The Trust is not part of the town council and has no guaranteed income. It relies on donations, fundraising and membership fees from its ‘Friends of the Green’ organisation to fund its activities.
