Uckfield Fire Station watch manager Ian Ritchie reported that East Sussex resources were among those deployed to Surrey and Berkshire. He added that advice about flooding was available from the National Flood Line. The number is: 0345 988 188.

Local councils should be contacted about sandbags. For the Uckfield area that would be Wealden District Council on 01323 443322.

Uckfield firefighters have been called to a variety of incidents in the first part of February. They include:

Monday, February 3: A car fire in Southview Drive at 10pm where they used a hosereel to extinguish the fire in the engine compartment.

Wednesday, February 4:  One crew dealt with a chimney fire at a house in Newick at 7.15pm.

Thursday, February 5: At 1.15pm a crew were called to Rotherfield to relieve crews who had been fighting a fire in the first floor and roof of house in the village.

Friday, February 7: Two people escaped uninjured from a car accident in Framfield 4pm. Firefighters made the vehicle and scene safe.

Uckfield crews have attended calls to fire alarms sounding in Uckfield, Herons Ghyll and Crowborough. They have also provided cover in Crowborough on four occasions due to their continuing shortage of part time firefighters.
