Co-opted youth member of Uckfield Town Council, Owen Coleman, with town clerk Holly Goring at the signing of the declaration of office

UCTC student co-opted to Uckfield Town Council

Uckfield Town Council has a new member.

Owen Coleman was co-opted as a non-voting youth member at last night’s full council meeting.

Cllr Coleman, 18, told the meeting he was a Year 13 student at Uckfield Sixth Form College, part of UCTC.

The move is part of the council’s youth engagement programme with the community college.

Town clerk Holly Goring has been liaising with UCTC to see if there were students interested in becoming involved with the council’s decision-making process.

Another student is considering putting himself forward for co-option.

Cllr Coleman will be able to take part in discussions and debates, including confidential business, but does not have a vote.
