Two Uckfield women took part in a 26 mile marathon hike from Brighton to Eastbourne on Saturday to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
It was a scorching hot day and there wasn’t a scrap of shade during the hike but Sarah D’Alessio and Lucinda Weis thoroughly enjoyed themselves and plan to do the same again next year.
Sarah was hobbling around with blisters yesterday but Lucinda seemed as fit as a fiddle.
Both have tackled previous challenges. Sarah joined in a Leukaemia Research sponsored cycle ride around London and Lucinda has taken part in an ultra biking marathon over 240 miles up and down mountains, and a rowing marathon of about 50 miles in Lincolnshire.
It was Sarah, a bookkeeper and payroll administrator, at Team 4 Solutions, who had the idea of taking part in the Macmillan marathon hike and Lucinda willingly joined her.
They said Macmillan looked after them very well during the day. A Zumba warm-up launchd the day, there were plenty of water stops and the food was “incredible”.
There was medical support too and music to keep you going when you tired.
Lucinda said there were plentiful snacks and lunch was one of the best meals she has ever had. “Really it was,” she said.
In all it took the women just short of 12 hours to complete the hike. They had set out at 9.20am.
Sarah said: “We do walk but we probably didn’t do as much beforehand as we should have done. It was nice to look forward to a long walk and we would definitely like to do it again.”
If you would like to boost the women’s fund-raising total donations will be welcome via Sarah’s JustGiving page.
