Uckfield Singers celebrated the tenth anniversary of their community choir at a party on Saturday night.
It was a particularly special event for chairman Sue Daniel, who has been involved with the choir right from the start and who is stepping down from the role in July. She said the party was “a wonderful and successful evening”.
Sue was secretary for two years and has been chairman for the last eight years.
She told Uckfield News: “I’ve had a brilliant time as chair. It’s been so rewarding running such a big community choir and I have made many friends along the way.
“As well as organising two big concerts each year in the Civic Centre – fund-raising for mostly local, and some national, charities – I got the choir involved in the Uckfield Town Council festivities for the Queen’s Jubilee, an outdoor concert in Uckfield to mark the end of the London Olympic Games, and even took the choir to London by coach for an audition for Britain’s Got Talent.
“All good fun,” she added.
The party was held at Framfield Village Hall and one of the choir members Erika, who has her own catering company Moveable Feasts, provided the food which included a huge cake decorated with a Champagne bottle and bubbles, and lots of musical notes.
Before the cake was cut, and instead of a normal thank you, Sue ran her own Oscars-style awards, called The Ucksters, complete with a muddle over envelopes as in the real Oscars this year.
About 90 Singers members and their partners attended the party and enjoyed dancing to a six-piece band from Tunbridge Wells, called Groove 101.
