Uckfield area shops were quickly back in action after the festive break, some sales have already begun, and others get under way today – and new stock is on the way. Check out our shopping feature to see what you will be able to buy during January.
Glitz and glamour coming to Chestnut Tree hospice shop
Glitz and glamour is promised at the Chestnut Tree children’s hospice charity shop in Uckfield High Street next month when more than 50 ballgowns go on sale.
The event will be launched with bubbly for shoppers on the evening of Tuesday, February 13, between 6-8pm. The shop will be closed during the day to prepare for the event.
Men’s evening wear will also be on sale then too.
In the run up to the sale one ballgown will be displayed each Monday in the charity shop window – and it will be possible to buy that in advance of the event if you are tempted.
If you have a ballgown you would like to donate for sale please drop it into the shop. Manager Angie Page will be delighted to see you. All proceeds will go to Chestnut Tree children’s hospice.
New pottery to paint at Kilnwood Studio
New pottery has arrived ready to be painted at Kilnwood Studio in Uckfield. It includes ever-popular unicorns, aeroplanes, dogs and cats, and, ready for Valentine’s Day, a big love sign.
As a complete contrast there are new skulls – again a popular choice among budding artists – and cupcake trinket boxes, see samples below.

Shop owner Sue Biggins said the vegetables they sell are ultra-fresh and haven’t been sitting around before delivery so you can be assured you are buying well. She added there is very little, if any, difference between their prices and those in supermarkets.
Look out for soup bags and stew bags on sale now, which include a mix of vegetables for use as meal ingredients. For example the stew bag ingredients can be used with a piece of braising steak from the shop to make your own stew. Simple recipe ideas are available in store.
Sale begins at Josefina today
A sale starts at Josefina today. All Christmas stock is half price, some home wares will be discounted as they are discontinued to make way for new stock.
Also in the sale will be reconditioned furniture and items from the joinery range.

There’s up to 50% off many items, including suits, jackets, trousers, and shoes, in a sale at Cole’s menswear shop.
All formal shirts are reduced by 25% too.

A sale is under way at Chapter Three as owner Kay Bevan makes space for new stock which is already arriving at the shop.

Think of Sew n Sew when it’s time for bunting
Fat quarters galore can be found at Sew n Sew in the Bell Walk precinct, Uckfield. These are squares of fabric cut to a set size 22″ by 18″ and brought together in matching bundles which can be used for quilting, patchwork or for bunting.
Don’t forget you can buy sewing boxes and knitting bags there and new to the shop are dress-making patterns.
Fabric now has its own section in the shop too and new lighting should have been installed by this weekend to show it off to better effect.
New Year cleaning at Bell Walk Dry Cleaners
Lots of suits have been cleaned by Bell Walk Dry Cleaners over Christmas and New Year and curtains are coming in too to be spruced up for 2018.

New on the menu at Hartfields
Three new burgers have been added to the menu at Hartfields. They are Italian, BBQ Chicken and Halloumi and Portobello Mushroom.
Also new is a Halloumi and Quinoa Super Salad; Quesidilla, smashed avocado, mix beans, onions, pepper, cheese and coriander; BBQ Pulled Pork and Chorizo Hash with saute potatoes, peppers, onions and a fried egg; and Smoked Mackerel Rissotto, with lemon, pea and dill, and poached egg.
The latest specials menu includes drinks of warm mulled wine, with brandy, red wine and festive spices; local apple, pear and ginger smoothie and soon to be added spiced winter punch.
There are Panko Breaded Mozzarella Sticks with red pepper relish as light bites and mains include Salmon, Mackerel and Dill Jumbo Fishcake, with local greens, hollandaise and poached free range egg; Sweetcorn Fritter and Halloumi Stack with avocade, red pepper relish and poached egg; Roast Turkey and Sausage Meat Stuffing Sandwich, with cranberry sauce, mayonnaise, rocket, crisps and side salad, and Bacon, Brie and Cranberry Ciabatta Melt, with rocket, crisps and side salad.
