The band, which is based at the Scout Hut in Rocks Park Road, has performed in three competitions since the end of June travelling all over the country to do that.

They are now looking forward to performing in Sussex bonfire celebrations including at Fletching, Newick, Lewes and East Hoathly.

Next year there will be more competitions but in the meantime they are recruiting new members who can be aged from eight to 25 years and fund-raising will soon be under way to help cover the costs of travelling to different venues.

Instruments and tuition are provided and those who start playing this winter will have chance to compete with the band next summer.

Assistant band master Dave Sawyers said finishing third in Division 3 of the national championships is the best place ever achieved in competition by the band.

They have been competing since 1991 and the band was formed in 1986.

The band would be pleased to hear from anybody who might like to contribute or who would be able to help with transportation of the instruments.
